Sky
When Sky's rescuer called us she
stated she had a raccoon fall form the sky and land on her on
the head while she was out on the patio. After verifying she
had no trees near her or any opening to her attic, we convince
her to get someone to go up on the roof and look for others as
raccoons due not fall from the sky. Her husband found 2
more babies on top of the roof in a V by the chimney. One was
dead from heat stroke and the other was not far from it as
the temperatures were reaching in 100’s.

We had them bring both of the babies in. Sky had slid off the roof and had cuts and scraps on all four feet plus a deep scrape on her chest and around her mount. We administered fluid to both and cleaned and covered the wounds with sliver sulfadiazine cream, then placed both in a incubator to rest before starting to feed them.
Over the next few day most of the wounds were healing except the deep one on Sky chest. We made a visit to the vet were we were instructed to put her on antibiotics and she should be fine. After 5 more days the wound still was not healing so we deiced to try a different approach. We cleaned the wound and covered it with sugar (sugar is know to fight bacteria and feeds the new growth of skin). Twice a day we would wash the wound under running water and recover them with the sugar. In only 2 days we could see a major improvement. After a week and a half the wound was completely held.
Sky will always carry a scar from the ordeal but she was released at the end of the October along with 24 other raccoons to live a normal life as a wild raccoon. Had the rescuer not responded to our plea to check for others neither Sky nor her brother would have lived more than a few hours. Caring people can make the biggest difference in lives of our wildlife neighbors.
