Most of the area has become overly infiltrated with humans and their world of buildings
and streets. This growth is pushing the raccoons and many other wildlife to live in a few tiny wooded lots left
undisturbed by the housing boom. They live under our streets and in our attics with no choice as their natural
habitat has been taken away. Many of these animals end up dead by our cars or actions often before they reach their
1st birthday.
Mothers move into our attics and birth their babies trying to
shelter them from the weather, then humans often capture the mother and move her before realizing she has babies
leaving them to die with out our intervention.
As soon as the babies are large enough to travel safely the mother will move them [most often around 6-8 weeks of
age]. So please give them time. If you can not tolerate them, there are some simple tricks to help encourage her to
move them sooner. Things like placing ammonia soaked rags and leaving it in the attic will often do the trick. For
other ideas call us.
If you find an orphaned baby, PLEASE
do not try to
feed it, they require special
formula and can aspirate if feed incorrectly. Keep it warm and get it to the shelter
as soon as possible.
